The trapeze harness allows the crew — and on some classes the helm too — to lean fully out over the side by hooking onto the trapeze wire, transferring the load onto the harness and multiplying the righting moment. It is essential on trapeze dinghies and skiffs such as the 49er, 470, RS800 and catamarans.

A good harness offers a rigid ergonomic shell that spreads the load across the back and hips, a correctly positioned hook and adjustable straps for a precise fit. ISO and seat-style models increase comfort and lumbar support during long trapezing legs.
