Powertech 78

The Powertech 78 is a high-performance line from the Grand Prix range by Gottifredi Maffioli, designed to offer maximum resistance, reliability, and handling. It is a double braid rope consisting of an Novabraid 78 core (high-performance fiber) and a mixed jacket made of technical materials, which provide superior characteristics. It is ideal for sailors and boat owners who demand the best from every component of their running rigging, even in extreme conditions.

 Technical Details

The double braid structure ensures a perfect balance between strength and flexibility. The Novabraid 78 core provides low elongation and high breaking loads, making it ideal for high-stress applications such as sheets and guys. Powertech 78 is available in a wide range of diameters, from 3.5 mm to 24 mm, with custom sizes available upon request. Additionally, a tapered version (with reduced diameter) is available to optimize weight and facilitate smooth passage through blocks.

 Materials

• Core: Novabraid 78 – a high-performance fiber with mechanical properties similar to Dyneema® SK78, optimized for low elongation and high tensile strength.

• Jacket: 50% Technora® + 50% High-tenacity Polyester – a winning combination that provides:

  • Excellent abrasion resistance

  • Outstanding thermal stability (ideal for use with winches and clutches)

  • Durability under repetitive cyclic loads

  • Good grip, maintaining flexibility and easy handling

The mixed jacket provides good handling feel, making the rope easy to manage even in wet conditions or while wearing gloves.

 Recommended Uses

Powertech 78 is ideal for:

• Main and headsail sheets

• Guys and barber hauls

• Backstays (running backstays)

• Lightweight halyards, especially when low elongation and low weight are critical

It is perfect for dinghies and one-design racing boats, but also performs well on offshore and racing yachts up to 60 feet, thanks to its robustness and versatility. The Technora-Polyester mix effectively protects the core from dynamic loads and repeated friction, ensuring reliability even under professional and competitive use.
